I’ve already begun to miss summer. Basically I live for summer and Christmas because they’re the happiest time of year. People just seem to be in a better mood overall. Not to mention wonderful parties and socializing with family and friends. During the warm months in Calgary, I love blaring my country music and living it up at Stampede and I’ve already begun to countdown for next year. I also love patio weather. My favourites in Calgary are Broken City (excellent patio sun, food, drinks, and service, bad seating though), Barley Mill (great beer selection, good location), and Unicorn (shitty prices, but a Calgary classic and great people-watching in the heart of the city).
This summer, as I previously mentioned, I was also back in Victoria. One of the reasons that I love Victoria in the summer is because Rooftop is open. Last summer I was in Victoria and spent the majority of it missing Calgary; but patio-ing in Victoria was absolutely wonderful and country night at Rooftop brought me back to my roots. Another of my favourite spots in Victoria is Canoe Club. The patio is absolutely wonderful (though the tables are so darn heavy, it makes it difficult if you have a large group)!
I headed down to Canoe with some friends this summer to hit up the afternoon sun and loved every second of it. We split some Fries and Edamame beans to start (awesome!) and I ordered the Veggie Burger, which was delicious. I’ve also had the Canoe Burger, the Flatbread, the Calamari, the Seasonal Greens, and the Wild Salmon. I highly recommend the salmon, the flatbread, and the veggie burger. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
I highly recommend hitting up Canoe Club. The prices are a little steep if you’re a student, so you may only want to grab drinks if you’re on a budget. It’s worth it for the patio. The interior also has a great feel and is wonderfully spacious. Thursday nights are a ton of fun for drinking and dancing as well. Always a blast.
